Japan-Jordan Summit Working Dinner

On November 11, commencing at 6:10 p.m. for approximately 1 hour, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a working dinner with His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows:
- Prime Minister TAKAICHI welcomed the visit by King Abdullah II to Japan, and expressed her respect for the important role Jordan plays as a cornerstone of regional stability under the leadership of King, and stated her willingness to further deepen the bilateral ties upheld by the strategic partnership.
In response, King Abdullah II expressed his appreciation for Japan’s warm hospitality, as well as his desire to further strengthen the strategic bilateral relationship rooted in long history and to jointly address regional and international challenges. - Both sides discussed a wide range of bilateral issues and concurred on further deepening the bilateral relations by strengthening cooperation in the fields of security, economy and others under the strategic partnership.
(1) Bilateral Relations
a. Security Cooperation
Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Japan wishes to steadily strengthen cooperation in the field of security, including cooperation and exchanges between defense authorities and in the field of cybersecurity. She also expressed her gratitude for Jordan's repeated generous support in Japan's efforts to protect its nationals in the Middle East region.
In response, King Abdullah II welcomed further strengthening of cooperation in the defense and security fields and expressed his expectation for further enhanced cooperation in the future.
b. Economic Cooperation
King Abdullah II expressed his gratitude, stating that Japan's consistent support for Jordan has steadily strengthened its society and economy.
In response, Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed her respect for King's leadership in advancing Jordan's economic and fiscal reforms under the situation that the significant burden was placed on Jordanian society as a result of receiving the large number of refugees, and stated that Japan will continue to support Jordan. Both sides also concurred on establishing a public-private joint committee to enhance the business environment and promote investment in Jordan, in order to support the activities of Japanese companies operating in Jordan.
(2) Regional Affairs
Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that it is crucial that the ceasefire in Gaza will be sustained and the agreement will be implemented sincerely and steadily. She added that Japan will actively contribute to international efforts including through human resources to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza and to its early recovery and reconstruction. Furthermore, she stated that Japan will continue to play a realistic and proactive role to bring the realization of a two-state solution one step closer.
In response, King Abdullah II explained the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as Jordan's efforts towards the reconstruction of Syria. He also expressed his desire to intensify information sharing and exchange of views with Japan, and to continue close cooperation for the stability and development of the region.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the regional situation, including those in East Asia. - Others
Both sides welcomed, on the same day, the signing and exchange of Notes on the same day regarding the ODA Loan “Enhancing the Resilience for Economic Growth and Human Capital Development Program Loan” and the Grant Aid “Economic and Social Development Programme” (Provision of cybersecurity equipment) between the two countries, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of cybersecurity.
