Japan-Jordan Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 9th, commencing at 4:15 p.m. local time (5:15 p.m. Japan Time) for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Brunei, held a telephone talk with H. E. Mr. Ayman SAFADI, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdomof Jordan, to discuss the situation surrounding Palestine and Israel. The overview is as follows:
- Minister Safadi stated that he shares the great concern about the situation on the ground, and explained Jordan’s diplomatic efforts in the wake of the attack.
- Minister Kamikawa stated that she is paying close attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with great concern. She stated that Japan strongly condemns the attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially attacks on, and kidnapping of, innocent civilians, which should not be justified for any reason. Minister Kamikawa stated that, at the same time, Japan is deeply concerned about a number of casualties caused by the attacks by the Israeli side. In addition, Minister Kamikawa appreciated Jordan’s diplomatic efforts on this matter, and stated that Japan has been communicating with the parties concerned in order to prevent further escalation of the situation, and would like to continue working on this matter in cooperation with Jordan.
- The Ministers shared the recognition that violence does not produce anything good, and concurred on maintaining close cooperation, including reaching out to the parties concerned, in order to prevent further escalation of the situation.
