Telephone Conversation between Foreign Minister Taro Kono and Foreign Minister of Jordan Ayman Safadi
Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a telephone conversation for approximately 15 minutes starting from 6:35 p.m.(local time) on Monday, December 11, 2017, with H.E. Mr. Ayman Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.
In the beginning, Minister Safadi explained the current situation in the Middle East region after the statement by President Trump on Jerusalem to Minister Kono. Then Minister Safadi stated it is necessary to gain support from the international community including Japan for the Middle East peace process. In return, Minister Kono stated that Japan supports a two-state solution, and believes that the final status of Jerusalem should be settled through negotiations between the parties, based on the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and the relevant agreements between the parties concerned, saying this Japanese position will not change. Minister Kono stressed that Japan will work cooperating closely with the international community including Jordan.
