Japan-Jordan Relations

On August 29, for approximately 10 minutes from 4:10 pm, Foreign Minister Taro Kono had a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Ayman Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.

  1. At first, Foreign Minister Kono offered his condolences to the victims of the terrorist attacks which occurred on August 10 in Jordan, stating that Japan would continuously support Jordan which seriously tackles issues of with terrorism and violent extremism. In return, Foreign Minister Safadi expressed his deep gratitude.
  2. The two Ministers exchanged their views on Japan-Jordan relations and Palestinian issues, With regard to assistances for the Palestinian, Minister Kono informed that Japan had decided a grant aid (600 million yen worth of food aid) through UNRWA the day before. 
  3. Furthermore, the two Ministers exchanged their views on situation surrounding UNRWA and reaffirmed the continuous cooperation assistances for UNRWA.
