Foreign Minister Kono Visits Jordan

On September 10, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.
- Minister-Kono Held a Foreign Minister’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Ayman Al Safadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. Afterwards, Minister Kono made a courtesy call on Dr. Hani Al-Mulki, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and made an audience followed by lunch hosted by His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
- Minister Kono stated to King AbdullahII, Prime Minister Mulki and Minister Safadi respectively that he would like to further deepen the friendly relations between Japan and Jordan, expressing his gratitude and respect to the fact that Jordan accepts Syrian refugees generously, adding that Japan will support Jordan in order to ease the economic and social burdens that Jordan is facing. In addition, Minister Kono announced that Japan has decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of 3.5 million dollars and explained the implementation of Grant Aid of 1 billion yen for supplying mechanical equipment and materials for the purpose of security measures.
- Furthermore, with Minister Safadi and King Abdullah II, Minister Kono exchanged views on the issues on North Korea as well as the situation in the Middle East. Minister Kono explained the measures that Japan has taken in order to maximize the international pressure on North Korea. In response, Jordanian side expressed its support to the Japanese stance. Both side agreed to work closely on the matter.
