Japan-Jordan Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On November 4, commencing at 9:35 a.m. local time (3:35 p.m. JST) for approximately 35 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, during her visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, held the meeting with H.E. Mr. Ayman Al Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that she is paying close attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with great concern.
- Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan has unequivocally condemned the recent terror attacks by Hamas and others, and that Japan has consistently called for (1) immediate release of hostages and securing safety of civilians, (2) all the parties to act in accordance with international law and (3) calming down the situation as soon as possible. In addition, Minister Kamikawa stated that given the very severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, especially, the fact that children with a future, women and elderly people are victimized, Japan is preparing to provide humanitarian aid around USD 65 million and relief supplies through JICA for Palestine for the time being, in addition to the emergency grant aid worth USD 10 million that has been already decided. She deeply appreciated Jordan’s cooperation regarding the transportation of Japanese nationals from Israel. Minister Safadi stated that Jordan will spare no effort in securing the safety of Japanese nationals. Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa once again conveyed that Japan’s position to support a two-state solution remains unchanged.
- Minister Safadi welcomed Minister Kamikawa’s visit and explained the position of Jordan. Minister Safadi stated that he shares the great concern about the situation on the ground, and highly appreciated Japan’s assistance.
- They concurred on continuing to cooperate to ensure the safety of civilians, to improve the humanitarian situation as the ongoing most important priority and and toward realization of humanitarian pause that would contribute to such ends, as well as to address persistently to calm down the situation as soon as possible.
