Exchange of views between State Minister NAKASONE and H.E. Dr. Emmanuel NAVON, Ambassador-Designate of Israel

On October 8, commencing at 4:00 p.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. NAKASONE Yasutaka, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Emmanuel Navon, Ambassador-Designate of the State of Israel to Japan.
This courtesy call was held with Mr. Guy Gilboa-Dalal also in attendance, who had been taken hostage by Hamas and others on October 7, 2023 and was released on October 13 last year.

  1. At the outset, State Minister Nakasone welcomed Ambassador-Designate Navon to Japan and expressed his desire to cooperate toward strengthening relations between the two countries in the future.
  2. State Minister Nakasone then referred to the third commemoration day of the terror attacks by Hamas and others on October 7, 2023, and stated that Japan has consistently and unequivocally condemned the terror attacks by Hamas and others. He also emphasized the importance of steady implementation of the “Comprehensive Plan,” including the decommissioning of Hamas.
  3. Furthermore, State Minister Nakasone pointed out the importance of the smooth implementation of humanitarian assistance activities by international organizations and NGOs in the Gaza Strip, as well as a fully freeze on settlement activities in the West Bank, which are in violation of international law, and strongly urged that appropriate measures be taken promptly by the Government of Israel.
  4. Both sides concurred on further communication toward the stability and prosperity of the Middle East region.
  5. On this occasion, State Minister Nakasone also had a conversation with Mr. Guy Gilboa-Dalal, who described the situation on the day of the terror attacks and the circumstances of his life while being held hostage.
