Courtesy call on State Minister KUNIMITSU by H.E. Dr. Emanuel NAVON, Ambassador-Designate of the State of Israel

On September 16, commencing at 5:00 p.m., for approximately 20 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received an introductory courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Emanuel Navon, Ambassador-Designate of the State of Israel to Japan.
- At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU referred to Ambassador-designate Navon’s attendance at the Peace Memorial Ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki shortly after his arrival in Japan, and expressed that she seeks to work closely with him to promote mutual understanding.
- While exchanging views on the situation in the Middle East, State Minister KUNIMITSU strongly urged that Israel to take appropriate responses to ensure unimpeded humanitarian assistance activities by international organizations and NGOs in the Gaza Strip, and with respect to the resent situation surrounding the West Bank, stated that settlement activities are in violation of international law, and expressed deep concern over the expansion of settlements and the continuation of violence by settlers. She strongly urged that appropriate measures be taken without delay.
- In response, Ambassador-Designate Navon explained Israel’s position regarding the situation in the Middle East and bilateral relations. Both sides agreed to continue communication at various levels.
