On January 28, commencing at 10:30 a.m. for approximately 40 minutes, State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII Iwao received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Yosef AMRANI, Political Director, Ministry of Forein Affairs of the State of Israel. The summary is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister Horii expressed deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the terror attacks on 7 October 2023 and explained Japan’s position to strongly condemn terrorism targeting specific communities, anywhere in the world.
- State Minister Horii also stated that Japan continues to play a proactive role in the recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, in line with the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict. He emphasized the importance of adhering to international law, including international humanitarian law, to ensure the protection of civilians and the provision of humanitarian assistance in Gaza, and urged Israel to take appropriate measures to facilitate the smooth operations of international organizations, including UNRWA, and NGOs. Furthermore, he reiterated Japan’s call for Israel to immediately cease all unilateral actions in the West Bank.
- In response, Political Director AMRANI explained Israel’s position on topics including the transitional governance and rebuilding of Gaza.
