Japan-Egypt Summit Telephone Meeting

On April 28, commencing at 6:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
- At the outset, Prime Minister Takaichi stated that, regarding the situation surrounding Iran, it is of utmost importance that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran be maintained and that de-escalation, including ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, be achieved at the earliest possible time. She expressed her respect for Egypt’s efforts, together with mediators including Pakistan, to pursue a diplomatic solution. She also stated that Japan would like to continue diplomatic efforts, in coordination with Egypt, toward the early de-escalation of the situation.
- In response, President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for the diplomatic efforts by Prime Minister Takaichi and stated that Egypt will continue its mediation efforts toward the early resumption of U.S.-Iran talks. In this connection, the two leaders concurred to further strengthen their coordination.
- Furthermore, the two leaders confirmed that they will work closely together toward the steady reconstruction of Gaza.
