Japan-Uruguay Relations
Courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs MIYAJI by Mr. Albertoni, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay

On February 13th, commencing at 10:30 a.m., for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Nicolás Albertoni, Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay during his visit to Japan. The over view of the meeting is as follows.
- At the beginning of the meeting, State Minister Miyaji welcomed Vice Minister Albertoni on his first visit to Japan and paid tribute to his two-year efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
- State Minister Miyaji also expressed his respect for Uruguay's political stability and economic development, and thanked Uruguay for its emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region and its high expectations of Japan.
- In response, Vice Miniter Albertoni stated that the two countries with diplomatic relations for over 100 years share fundamental values and that he believes bilateral relations between the two countries will further develop after the establishment of the new administration.
- The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in North Korea, the CPTPP and other issues. Vice Miniter Albertoni emphasized the importance of Uruguay's access to the CPTPP for bilateral relations. State Minister Miyaji stated that he recognized Uruguay’s high interest in acceeding to the CPTPP. State Minister Miyaji noted that Vice Minister Albertoni wears a blue ribbon badge and expressed his appreciation for Vice Miniter Albertoni‘s interest in the abduction issue and his understanding of Japan's position.
