Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto is delivering his speech

On September 18, Mr. MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the 215th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the Independence of the Republic of Chile, hosted by the Embassy of Chile in Tokyo and held in the city. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto delivered remarks. In his remarks, he expressed congratulations on the Independence Day. He also noted that many government ministers, including President Boric, had visited Japan for Chile's National Day at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 (on May 12), during which Japan-Chile summit meeting and Japan-Chile foreign ministers' meeting were held, and welcomed the fact that bilateral exchanges have become more active than in recent years. He also mentioned that the broad range of exchanges and cooperation between the two countries have been conducted in areas such as politics, economics, disaster prevention, science and technology. Looking ahead to the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Chile in 2027, he expressed his desire to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
  2. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Matsumoto also held talks with H.E. Mr. Rojas, Ambassador of Chile to Japan and other officials, exchanging views on how to further strengthen bilateral relations.
