Dinner Hosted by State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII with Brazilian Federal Senate Delegation

On January 26, from 6:30 p.m. for approximately two hours, State Minister for Foreign Affairs HORII Iwao hosted a dinner with the Brazilian Federal Senate delegation visiting Japan under the "GPI (Green Partnership Initiative) Invitation." They exchanged views on a wide range of topics, including Japan-Brazil relations. The summary is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister HORII noted that Brazil is home to the world's largest Nikkei community, and the relationship between the two countries is supported by special bonds between people. He expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Senate delegation to Japan, following the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year ("Japan-Brazil Friendship Exchange Year"), and requested continued cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations.
- Participants in the dinner expressed that there is significant potential for cooperation between Japan and Brazil in the fields of environment, climate change, and sustainable development. The Brazilian Federal Senate also wishes to contribute to the cooperation between the governments of both countries. Furthermore, a wide range of opinions were exchanged between the State Minister and participants, including on recent international situations.

(Reference2) GPI (Green Partnership Initiative) Invitation
Under the "Japan-Brazil Green Partnership Initiative (GPI)" launched by the leaders of Japan and Brazil, key players in the fields of environment, climate change, and sustainable development are invited from Brazil to Japan to steadily promote cooperation in these areas. They participate in meetings, exchange opinions with related Japanese institutions, and conduct inspections.
