Japan-Brazil Relations
Courtesy call on Prime Minister ISHIBA by the members of Japan-Brazil Business Council Plenary Meeting

On November 5th, commencing at 4:40 p.m., for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. YASUNAGA Tatsuo, Chair, Japan-Brazil Economic Committee and Japan-Peru Business Committee, and Mr. Gustavo Pimenta, Chairman, Brazil-Japan Business Council, among others. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Mr. Yasunaga stated that Keidanren, together with the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI), held the 25th Japan-Brazil Business Council Plenary Meeting in Japan on November 5th and 6th this year to discuss the economic situation in both countries, diversification and resilience of Global Value Chains, as well as decarbonization and preservation of environment in the industrial sector. Both chairpersons handed over the “Joint Recommendations Calling for Prompt Action to Establish Japan-Mercosur EPA” and called for the early conclusion of the Japan-Mercosur EPA. Furthermore, Mr. Yasunaga, as Chairperson of the Japan-Peru Business Committee, handed over the Joint Statement adopted at the 15th Japan-Peru Economic Council held in Peru.
- In response, Prime Minister Ishiba expressed his gratitude for the recommendations. He also expressed his intention to strengthen relations with Brazil in every area, taking the opportunity of the Japan-Brazil Friendship Exchange Year next year which marks the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Furthermore, he stated that while listening to the various opinions in Japan, the Government would continue to discuss ways to strengthen relations with MERCOSUR in a wide range of areas. Prime Minister Ishiba also expressed his gratitude for the Joint Statement of the Japan-Peru Economic Council and stated that Japan would promote the strengthening of the relations with Brazil, Peru, and Latin America.
