On April 23, commencing at 9:50 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. David CHOQUEHUANCA CESPEDES, Vice President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, who is visiting Japan on the occasion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi stated that Bolivia and Japan are important partners that have built friendly long-standing relations and welcomed the visit by Vice President Choquehuanca to Japan. He also stated that emergency relief goods were provided with regards to the damages caused by the floods across Bolivia since last month, and that Japan would continue to cooperate for restoration and reconstruction. In response, Vice President Choquehuanca expressed his gratitude for the support.
  2. As Vice President Choquehuanca attended the National Day celebration of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan , both sides confirmed that they would further strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange through this Expo.
  3. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on the regional situation including their policies towards North Korea. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained support stating that the position of Japan is the same as that of Bolivia.
