From February 22 to March 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan hosted the 25th Invitation Program for Young Leaders of FEALAC. The Overview is as follows.

  1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has hosted this Program annually since 2001, soon after FEALAC was established, with a view to deepen the understanding of common issues in Asia and Latin America and strengthen the relationship among FEALAC member countries. This year's program focused on the theme "Utilizing Science and Technology to Solve Water Issues.".
  2. Eleven young leaders from Asia and Latin America participated in this invitation program. On the 23rd, they visited disaster prevention facilities and educational institutions in the Kanto region. On the 24th, they received lectures from relevant ministries on Japan’s initiatives for solving water issues. From the 25th to the 26th, they visited the Kansai region, touring companies engaged in water treatment and disaster prevention research institutions, while also experiencing Japanese culture in Kyoto. On the 27th, they received lectures at companies and relevant ministries in Tokyo.
  3. The participants also paid a courtesy call on State Minister HORII Iwao on the 24th and they had an audience with Her Imperial Highness Princess Kako on the 27th.
  4. This invitation program introduced participants to Japan's initiatives for the resolution of water issues. Also enabled them toshare their countries’ efforts and concerns and exchange views on the lessons and insights gained through the program, as well as on Japan’s initiatives that could be applied to addressing issues in their own countries. It provided a meaningful opportunity to strengthen relations among FEALAC member countries.
