From March 3 to 10, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan hosted the 15th Invitation Program for Young Leaders of FEALAC.

1 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has been hosting this Program since 2000, one year after FEALAC was established, in order to deepen the understanding on common issues between Asia and Latin America, and to strengthen the relationship among FEALAC member countries. The theme for this year's program was ''use of technology for disaster risk reduction and sustainable growth,'' an issue of common concern for both Asia and Latin America.

2 On March 4, the FEALAC young leaders received lectures on Japan's commitment to FEALAC, and measures for disaster risk reduction and reconstruction. On March 5, the young leaders visited Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and listened to a lecture on Tsukuba City's project to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and learned Japanese high-technology in JAXA. On March 6 and 7, the participants learned municipality's approach to reconstruction and visit disaster-affected communities in Ishinomaki City and Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. On March 8 and 9, the participants made presentations on their findings during this visit and experienced Japanese culture through visiting Asakusa, Tokyo Skytree, etc.

3 On March 4, the FEALAC young leaders paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Hitoshi Kikawada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs. On March 9, the participants were given an audience with Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princes Akishino.
