Meeting between State Minister Miyaji and Chairman Murat

On August 27, commencing at 10:00 a.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs held a meeting with Mr. Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, Chairman of Senate Committee on Foreign Relations of the United Mexican States, who is visiting Japan by Invitation Program for Strategic Exchanges on Practical Level. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, State Minister Miyaji welcomed Chairman Murat and stated that Mexico is a historic friend with whom Japan shares long-standing diplomatic ties, and that the number of Japanese corporate bases in Mexico has significantly increased over the 20 years since the Japan-Mexico Economic Partnership Agreement took effect. He expressed Japan's desire to further strengthen economic relations.
  2. In response, Chairman Murat expressed his gratitude for the invitation. Chairman Murat mentioned that his visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb dome, and to Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai left a profound impression on him. Chairman Murat stated his desire to cooperate with Japan to further deepen bilateral relations across various fields.
  3. State Minister Miyaji stated that for the international community to move from division and confrontation toward cooperation, principles such as freedom, inclusiveness and the rule of law are crucial, and that it is important for Japan and Mexico, which share these values and principles, to collaborate. Chairman Murat supported this. Both sides also exchanged their views on the situation in East Asia, such as policies toward North Korea, including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and confirmed that they will work together in addressing these challenges in the international community.
