Attendance at the "Ministrial Meeting of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti" as side event of the 80th UN General Assembly

On September 23 (local time), Mr. ISHIZE Motoyuki, Director-General Assistant Minister, Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau attended the "Ministrial Meeting of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti" as side event of the 80th UN General Assembly. This meeting was co-hosted by Canada, the chair of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Haiti Ad Hoc Advisory Group, and the Republic of Haiti. Representatives from 38 countries and organizations participated, including The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, and His Excellency Mr. Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Haiti.
- The meeting discussed humanitarian and development assistance required from the international community, and solutions for stabilization and development in Haiti, where a multifaceted crisis encompassing political, security, human rights, development, and humanitarian issues is accelerating.
- Director-General ISHIZE delivered a statement on behalf of the Government of Japan. He stated that Japan recognizes the current situation in Haiti, where violence is threatening democratic elections and human rights, as a challenge to the values and principles that the international community must uphold. He further explained that Japan is providing support through international organizations, such as support for ensuring the deployment of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission and the Haitian National Police and assistance in strengthening international border control.
