Japan-Haiti Summit Meeting
October 9, 2025


On October 9, commencing at 3:05 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Anthony Franck Laurent SAINT-CYR, the President of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) of the Republic of Haiti, who is visiting Japan to participate in the National Day Event of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview the meeting is as follows:
- Prime Minister ISHIBA welcomed President of TPC Saint-Cyr’s first visit to Japan and expressed his hope that this visit would provide an opportunity to showcase Haiti’s rich culture and appeal to Japan and the world, as the culmination of the National Day of Haiti at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. Prime Minister ISHIBA also stated that peace and stability in Haiti is a key to the stability and development of the Latin America and Caribbean region. In response, President of TPC Saint-Cyr expressed his gratitude for Japan’s invitation and its warm hospitality.
- The two leaders concurred on the importance of holding free and fair elections in Haiti. President of TPC Saint-Cyr expressed his gratitude for Japan’s long-standing bilateral assistance and efforts toward the stabilization of Haiti. In addition, President of TPC Saint-Cyr explained about current situation in Haiti and the free and fair election process in the future and its challenges.
- The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in East Asia, such as their policies toward North Korea, including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and confirmed that they will work together to address various issues in the international community.
