Courtesy Call on Foreign Minister IWAYA by President IWASAWA of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and President AKANE of the International Criminal Court (ICC)

On June 24, commencing at 18:25 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Judge IWASAWA Yuji, President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and H.E. Judge AKANE Tomoko, President of the International Criminal Court (ICC), during Minister Iwaya’s visit to the Hague, Kingdom of Netherlands to attend events related to the NATO Summit. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- Minister Iwaya conveyed that Japan attaches great importance to the role of the ICJ and the ICC in strengthening the rule of law in the international community and will continue to strongly support the ICJ and the ICC.
- In response, President Iwasawa and President Akane extended their appreciation for Japan’s commitment to the rule of law and contribution to the activities of the ICJ and the ICC.
- Minister Iwaya and both Presidents then exchanged views on the situation surrounding the ICJ and the ICC and confirmed to continue coordination and cooperation to maintain and strengthen the rule of law in the international community.
