On April 24, commencing at 14:10 for approximately 20 minutes, Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio received a courtesy call from Mr. Gilbert HOUNGBO, Director-General, International Labour Organization (ILO), who is visiting Japan to attend the G7 Kurashiki Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting. The overview is as follows.

  1. Prime Minister Kishida welcomed Director-General Houngbo to Japan and congratulated him on his appointment to Director-General last autumn. Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his wish to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between Japan and the ILO, as this year marks the centenary of the establishment of the ILO Office for Japan.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude for ILO’s contribution to the discussions at the G7 Kurashiki Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting. He stated that "strengthening investment in human capital," a topic discussed at the meeting, is one of the pillars of his administration's goal toward achieving a virtuous cycle of growth and distribution, and that he hopes to link the outcome of the meeting to discussions among the G7 leaders.
  3. In response, Director-General Houngbo praised the success of the G7 Kurashiki Labour and Employment Ministers’ meeting. He went on to express his deep gratitude for Japan's support of the ILO, and their determination to continue working with Japan to achieve social justice.
