The 4th Japan-UNRWA Program Board (Summary of Outcomes)

On 25th June (local time), the 4th Japan-UNRWA Program Board Meeting, established under the Japan-UNRWA Project Management and Monitoring Mechanism was held in Amman, Jordan.
- The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Tomoyuki Yamamoto, Director, Humanitarian Assistance and Emergency Relief Division, International Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Karim Amer, Director of Partnerships, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Senior officers from field offices and relevant departments of UNRWA also participated in the meeting.
- In the Board Meeting, Project Steering Groups from UNRWA field offices provided updates on the implementation and monitoring status of projects funded through Japan's contributions, and participants confirmed the appropriate implementation of the projects and exchanged views. In addition, external experts participated in the meeting and reported on the results of third-party monitoring. Japan highlighted its continuous interest in UNRWA's efforts to strengthen its governance and ensure neutrality.

This mechanism was established in April 2024 upon the disbursement of funding from Japan's supplementary budget for FY2024 to UNRWA. The purpose of this mechanism is to manage and monitor the implementation of projects funded by Japan.
