On March 18, during his visit to Geneva, Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, had a meeting with Ms. Kelly Clements, United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The overview is as follows.

1. At the outset, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI paid tribute to UNHCR staff who are dedicated to assisting refugees and displaced persons while the humanitarian situation becomes increasingly serious globally. He also noted the importance of cooperation between Japan and UNHCR to improve the humanitarian situation.
2. The two sides exchanged their candid views on cooperation between Japan and UNHCR including partnerships with Japanese private sector, as well as the promotion of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace nexus (HDP nexus) initiative, and on the UN system reform.
