On July 22, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held an exchange of views with Mr. Pierre Krähenbühl, Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who is visiting Japan, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Mr. AKAHORI welcomed Director-General Krähenbühl's visit to Japan and stated that ICRC, which delivers humanitarian assistance even in conflict zones where the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japanese NGOs, and other humanitarian organizations face difficulties gaining access, is an important partner for Japan in realizing human security.
  2. In response, Director-General Krähenbühl expressed his gratitude for Japan's support and stated his expectation for further strengthening the cooperation between Japan and ICRC.
  3. In addition, both sides exchanged views such as the promotion of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus.
