  1. Extraordinary Ministerial Conference “Preserving Dignity and Sharing Responsibility – Mobilizing Collective Action for UNRWA” hosted by the Government of Jordan, Sweden and Egypt was held in Rome on 15 March 2018. As a representative of Japan, Mr. Manabu HORII, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan attended this conference and made a speech.
    At the conference, Foreign Ministers of Jordan, Sweden, Egypt (co-chairs), Secretary General of UN, Commissioner General of UNRWA, High Representative of EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and others attended and representatives from 77 countries and international organizations participated.
  2. In his speech, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Mr. Horii stated on (1) Japan’s decision to extend the assistance of approximately 23.5 million dollars to UNRWA, (2) the disbursement of regular contribution for the next fiscal year at the earliest possible time, and (3) possibility to utilize other resources, including emergency grant aid, for considering additional contributions in areas such as health and sanitation (Japanese (PDF)Open a New WindowEnglish (PDF)Open a New Window).
  3. Taking this opportunity, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Mr. Horii exchanged opinions on strengthening bilateral relations with Mr. Calmelo Abela, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of Malta.
