Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs ENDO’s Participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly Side Event “UNGA81 High-Level Leaders’ Dialogue: Moving Beyond Crisis” hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Others

On September 23, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs ENDO Kazuya participated in UNGA81 High-Level Leaders’ Dialogue: Moving Beyond Crisis”, a side event of the High-level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and others.
- At the meeting, representatives from national governments, international organizations, private companies, and others exchanged views on shifting from the conventional sequential approach of providing humanitarian assistance followed by development after a crisis, toward maintaining development pathways even in the midst of crises and pursuing development from the immediate aftermath of a crisis.
- Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs ENDO emphasized the importance of not only initiating development in the early stages of crises, but also, during normal times, designing policies and institutions with crises in mind, in order to realize development that is resilient in the face of crises. He also highlighted the importance of "Human Security," a concept Japan has long championed as a pillar of its diplomacy, and the principle of "Build Back Better" in the context of recovery and reconstruction from disasters.
