Meeting between Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs ERI Arfiya and Dr. Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

On August 21, commencing at 12:00 for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. ERI Arfiya, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Dr. Alvaro Lario, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), who was visiting Japan on the occasion of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The summary is as follows.
- At the outset, Ms. ERI welcomed President Lario’s visit to Japan, commending IFAD's work and role in focusing support on smallholder farmers and the poorest people in rural areas, and in mobilizing private sector funding. Ms. ERI then stated Japan's intention to continue collaborating with IFAD.
- In response, President Lario expressed his gratitude for the contribution from Japan. Both sides agreed to continue collaborating, including follow-up on the outcomes of TICAD9.
