Courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU by Ms. Alcalde, Director-General, International Planned Parenthood Federation

On May 8, commencing at 2:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from Ms. Maria Antonieta Alcalde, Director-General, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
- At the outset, State Minister KUNIMITSU offered congratulations on Director-General Alcalde’s appointment and welcomed the first visit to Japan. She also expressed appreciation for IPPF’s grassroots-level activities on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), stating that the provision of sexual and reproductive health services is essential for achieving universal health coverage (UHC), which Japan attaches importance to, and that Japan will continue to take proactive efforts.
- In response, Director-General Alcalde expressed an aspiration, as the new Director-General, to further solidify IPPF’s member associations, and stated the intention to further strengthen the partnership with Japan in promoting UHC and SRHR.
- Both sides, taking into account the results of the Japan–IPPF policy dialogue, reaffirmed to continue close cooperationbetween Japan and IPPF.
