Courtesy Call on Prime Minister ISHIBA by Mr. Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation

On August 19, commencing at around 2:40 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation, who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA welcomed Mr. Gates’s visit to Japan and expressed his appreciation for the Gates Foundation’s long-standing contributions to global health. In response, Mr. Gates noted that the field of global health is currently facing a critical juncture and expressed his gratitude for Japan's unwavering contributions in this field.
- Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that Japan has been working on global health, and that now, when the current situation in global health is severe, ensuring the sustainability of efforts in this field is critical and that these efforts will also be extensively addressed at TICAD 9 starting tomorrow (20th August).
- In response, Mr. Gates referred to the current situation in global health and expressed his desire to continue working closely with Japan in the future, requesting cooperation. They shared the view to continue to coordinate with each other closely.
