On December 16, 2015, commencing at 8:57 a.m. and for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

1. Prime Minister Abe stated that Japan has been promoting the strengthening of health systems and universal health coverage (UHC), contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Prime Minister Abe said that Japan places importance on discussing global health issues including a public health emergency response at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit which Japan will host next year and at TICAD VI which will be held in Africa for the first time. Prime Minister Abe highlighted the importance of the Pandemic Emergency Facility that the World Bank has been developing, and expressed his expectation for the World Bank to collaborate with WHO in this field. Prime Minister Abe shared his vision to contribute to the global economy in partnership with the World Bank while expressing his expectation for the World Bank as an important player in implementing the 2030 Agenda to contribute to disaster risk reduction and quality infrastructure development.

2. In response, Dr. Kim mentioned that the World Bank also attaches great importance to UHC and promised its support for the success of the G7 Summit and its collaboration for TICAD VI. Dr. Kim noted that he is in agreement with Prime Minister Abe on the importance of a response to pandemics, disaster risk reduction and quality infrastructure.
