1. About UNCCD
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) addresses to improve the living conditions for people in drylands, to maintain and restore land and soil productivity, and to mitigate the effects of drought. The UNCCD is particularly committed to a bottom-up approach, encouraging the participation of local people in combating desertification and land degradation.
2. Japan’s Role
Since Japan had devoted to contribute to successful ratification of the Convention as a bureau member and also as a chair at intergovernmental conferences, Japan has been supporting UNCCD and its projects through Japan’s ODA and also funding to UNDP, FAO and UNEP among others.
