Meeting between Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Ms. Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund

On August 25, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs received a courtesy call by Ms. Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and had discussions for approximately 30 minutes, during her visit to Japan.
- State Minister Miyaji extended a warm welcome to Executive Director Duarte visiting Japan and appreciated her efforts in reforming the GCF and her leadership. State Minister Miyaji expressed his expectations for the GCF's role in the effort towards achieving the Paris Agreement 1.5℃ goal, emphasizing Japan's intention to work together. Furthermore, State Minister Miyaji confirmed the GCF’s ongoing efforts to mobilize private finance, strengthen the adaptive capacity and resilience of countries that are particularly vulnerable to climate change, and utilize wide-ranging knowledge towards effective and efficient implementation and operation of projects. He emphasized the importance of visibly demonstrating the GCF's continued importance and utility to the international community, and reiterated Japan's support for the GCF's activities.
- Executive Director Duarte, in response, expressed her gratitude for Japan’s significant contribution to the GCF so far and shared her priorities for the coming years, including strengthening support for the most vulnerable people and communities, mobilizing private investment. She also outlined reforms undertaken to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and expressed a desire for active engagement with Japanese stakeholders.
- State Minister Miyaji and Executive Director Duarte also exchanged views on how to promote the recruitment of Japanese citizens to the GCF Secretariat and to encourage the engagement of Japanese companies in GCF projects. They concurred with continuing collaboration between the Government of Japan and the GCF.
