Climate Change
Japan’s additional contribution to the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD)
March 4, 2026
- On March 4, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU Ayano, joining the 24th Informal Meeting on Further Action against Climate Change (Japan-Brazil Dialogue) held in Tokyo, announced that Japan had made an additional contribution of USD 5 million to the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) in February.
- This contribution follows its contribution of USD 10 million, which was made in March 2024, based on the pledge at the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in 2023, as well as another contribution of USD 5 million made in March 2025.
- Expecting that the fund will operate in an appropriate manner to provide effective support to developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change, Japan will continue to actively contribute to discussions on the Board of the fund and relevant fora.
