Climate Change
Exchange of views on climate change with companies

On September 5, Ministry of foreign affairs (MOFA) exchanged opinions with the member companies participating in Japan-CLP (Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership). Mr. Hideo SUZUKI (Ambassador, Assistant Minister for Global Issues/Director-General for Global Issues), Mr. Tamaki TSUKADA (Deputy Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and Global Issues) and Mr. Tomoaki ISHIGAKI (Director of Climate Change Division) participated in this meeting and senior members of companies such as Sekisui House, RICOH, LIXIL corporation, Aeon and Shizen Energy participated from Japan-CLP.
On this occasion, in order to further strengthen activities towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement and to make a concrete effort to address climate change, they frankly exchanged opinions on the challenges that private companies face in addressing climate change. In order to steadily implement the Paris Agreement and prepare for COP23, they had active discussion on the appropriate picture of concerted effort, in which government, companies and NGOs work together and on the effective ways for government and companies to cooperate. Indications and opinions from private companies were informative for the government of Japan in proceeding further negotiation of climate change.
MOFA will further continue to have active discussion with companies and organizations tackling climate change, and will also collaborate closely with them of COP 23 in Bonn Germany starting from 6th November.
