Climate Change

March 28, 2018
  1. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) signed an Accreditation Master Agreement (AMA) with the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) at Tokyo on March 23 2018. Mr. Howard Bamsey, Executive Director of the GCF visited Japan to sign the AMA.
  2. This agreement will allow the BTMU to access the GCF resources in order to implement projects to address climate change in developing countries. It is expected that the agreement will stimulate assistance activities by Japanese private organizations through the GCF.
  3. Climate Change requires concerted effort of the international community, and the importance of roles played by non-state stakeholders such as companies and local governments is mentioned in the Paris Agreement. Mr. Bamsey’s visit demonstrates the GCF’s high expectations for Japan in the area of climate change. Japan welcomes the signing between the GCF and the BTMU, and will continually work closely with the GCF.

All entities are required to follow code of conducts such as fiduciary standards, environmental and social standards, and gender policy of GCF and need approval by the GCF Board in order to obtain accreditation.
