Meeting between Mr. Kiyoshi Odawara, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Howard Bamsey, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund

On January 31, Mr. Kiyoshi Odawara, Parlimentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs held talks with Mr. Howard Bamsey, Executuve Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), during his visit to Japan.
Mr. Odawara congratulated Mr. Bamsey on his assumption of office as Executive Director of the GCF and welcomed his visit to Japan immediately after his apointment. Mr. Odawara noted that after the Paris Agreement's entry into force last year more focus would be placed on its steady implementation, and stated that the GCF would play an increasingly important role in ensuring implementation of the Paris Agreement for developing countries.
Mr. Bamsey, in response, pointed out that the choice of visiting Japan as his first overseas is the expression of the GCF’s strong interest in partnering with Japan, Mr. Bamsey expressed his gratitude to Mr. Odawara for the contribution Japan has made to the GCF, and his expectation for further contribution of Japan to the GCF as a board member of the GCF.
Mr. Odawara and Mr. Bamsey also exchanged views on the status of the GCF projects that had been adopted and other issues relevant to the future work of the GCF. They confirmed that the government of Japan and the GCF will continue to cooperate closely on climate change issues.
