On September 22, commencing at around 9:00 a.m. (local time) for approximately twenty minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Kőrösi Csaba, the President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Hayashi congratulated President Kőrösi on his assumption of the presidency of the General Assembly and stated that he strongly hopes President Korosi would exercise his leadership in facilitating the UN's efforts to address various challenges.
    In response, President Kőrösi welcomed Minister Hayashi's attendance at the General Assembly.
  2. Minister Hayashi stressed that, in the midst of the wavering international order, Japan attaches importance to upholding the rule of law, and so it is required to strengthen the function of the UN as a whole. He also stated that Japan would support enhancing the General Assembly's function as well as President Kőrösi's leadership, to which President Korosi expressed his appreciation. Minister Hayashi also emphasized the importance of the UN Security Council reform and expressed his hope for President Kőrösi's leadership, referring to the positive attitude of President Kőrösi towards this reform. President Kőrösi responded stating that he will work hard for this issue with Member States.
  3. Referring to the unprecedented challenges the international community faces, both sides concurred to work together to mainstream activities based on human security in the new era, and will fulfill the responsibility for future generations.
