Dialogue between Foreign Minister IWAYA and Japanese staff members of international organizations

On April 28, commencing at 9:45 a.m. for approximately thirty minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, during his visit to New York, held a dialogue with Japanese staff members working at international organizations. The outline is as follows. Mrs. IWAYA Satoko, the spouse of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, participated in the dialogue as well.
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA stated that he has been promoting a “diplomacy of dialogue and harmony” since he took office as Foreign Minister, at a time when the international community faces complex crises and the international order is under a challenge, while the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary.
- Minister IWAYA further stated that the role of international organization staff has become increasingly important under the current situation and that he is proud of the Japanese staff members who are playing active roles.
- At the meeting, Minister IWAYA and the participants had a candid exchange of views on various topics including the challenges in performing the activities in the international organization, expectations to the Government of Japan and issues related to peace operations in which many of the participants engage.
