On October 31, starting at 2:35p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, received a courtesy call by Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under Secretary General (USG) for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the United Nations, who is visiting Japan upon the invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi welcomed Ms. DiCarlo’s visit and stated that Japan will continue to contribute to international peace and security, while underlining the importance of strengthening the functions of the UN. USG DiCarlo expressed appreciation for Japan’s past contribution to the UN, including to the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA).
  2. Both sides exchanged views on a variety of topics such as dealing with North Korea, such as the nuclear and missile issues including the launch of intercontinental ballistic missile on the same day, the abductions issue as well as the advancement of Russia-North Korea military cooperation, and concurred to work together.
