Courtesy Call on Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi by Co-Chairs of Intergovernmental Negotiation on Security Council Reform (IGN)

Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Chief Cabinet Secretary, received a courtesy call from H.E. Ambassador Tareq M. A. M. Al Banai, Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations (UN) and H. E. Ambassador Alexander Marschik, Permanent Representative of Austria to the UN, Co-Chairs of Intergovernmental Negotiation on Security Council Reform (IGN), who are visiting Japan at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on January 11, from 16:30 to 16:50 (local time) for 20 minutes. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi welcomed the visit of the two UN Permanent Representatives to Japan and emphasized that this year, including the Summit of the Future, is a critical year for Security Council reform and that concrete progress is needed. Furthermore, he stated that Japan will continue to firmly support the work by the two UN Permanent Representatives as IGN Co-Chairs.
- Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi also stated that Japan would like to continue to work together on response to North Korea’s nuclear and missiles issues as well as the abductions issue. as one of the most important issues of Japan’s foreign policy, including in the UN arena.
- In response, the two UN Permanent Representatives thanked for the invitation and stated that they will further strengthen cooperation with Japan on issues in the international arena including Security Council reform and the situation in North Korea.
