- Minister IWAYA highlighted the importance of close cooperation among the G4 to achieve concrete progress turning the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the UN, given that the international community faces serious geopolitical challenges and international order becomes increasingly unstable. Minister IWAYA also reiterated the firm resolve to continue collaboration within the G4 in the Intergovernmental Negotiation (IGN) on Security Council Reform, and further facilitate consultations with relevant countries, in order for the G4 to lead international discussions on this agenda.
- The G4 Ministers concurred on close cooperation toward realizing Security Council reform, including the development of a consolidated model at the earliest, which may lead to text-based negotiations and concrete progress, and agreed to aim for concrete results during the current session by leveraging the momentum gained at last year’s Summit of the Future, while working with relevant countries including current permanent members and African countries. Furthermore, the G4 Ministers reaffirmed their mutual support for each other’s candidacies as new permanent members of a reformed Security Council.
