Foreign Minister IWAYA’s participation in UNGA Week Special Dialogue

On September 22, while visiting New York to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, participated in UNGA Week Special Dialogue organized by the International House of Japan, Inc. and Japan Society, titled ‘Strategic Frontiers: Japan-U.S. Leadership in a Fragmenting World’. He delivered a keynote address on “Japan’s Foreign Policy and Global Governance.” The outline is as follows:
- At the outset, Foreign Minister IWAYA outlined Japan’s foreign policies: strengthening the Japan-U.S. alliance, cooperation with like-minded countries and relations with neighboring countries, and engagement with the Global South.
- He then addressed issues of global governance, noting that many international organizations and forums have identified challenges and that reforms, including improvements in efficiency, are currently required.
- Finally, he expressed Japan's determination to act as a hub connecting countries in this divided and confronted world through diplomacy of dialogue and cooperation.
