G7

March 14, 2025

On March 14, commencing at 9:30 a.m. (10:30 p.m. on the same day, Japan Time) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Charlevoix, Canada to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, participated in the G7 session on Africa. The overview is as follows (the session was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy).

  1. In this session, the G7 ministers had a candid exchange of views on the situation in Africa, with a focus on countries such as the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan, where the situation remains unstable. The ministers reaffirmed that they will continue to work together to address the situation.
  2. Minister Iwaya stressed the necessity for the G7 to walk side by side with and to work on enhancing the relations with African countries. He also stated that Japan would seek to link the discussions and outcomes of the TICAD 9, which will be held in Yokohama in August this year, with the G7’s discussions.
