On March 13, commencing at 9:20 a.m. (10:20 p.m. on the same day, Japan Time) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Charlevoix, Canada to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, participated in the G7 session on “Strengthening the G7 at 50 Years". The overview is as follows (the session was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy).

  1. In this session, the ministers discussed the role of the G7 in the current international community at 50 years since the G7's inception, reflecting on 50 years of the G7 progress, and reaffirmed the importance of maintaining and strengthening the unity of the G7 for various issues in the international community.
  2. It was pointed out that the G7, which shares values and principles such as freedom, democracy and the rule of law, plays an increasingly important role in resolving various challenges facing the international community, and the ministers reaffirmed their determination to play their role as the G7 for the peace, stability and prosperity of the international community.
  3. Minister Iwaya appreciated the value of the G7 at its 50 years and stressed that the G7 will continue to work together as a group, and that strengthening unity through close communication is important for this purpose.
