Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI’s Attendance to Ministerial-Level Meeting on the GCERF (Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund) Replenishment Conference

On September 26 (September 25 local time), Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs who was visiting New York, attended the Ministerial-Level Meeting on the GCERF Replenishment Conference.
- Co-hosted by the Governments of Germany and Chad, the conference was attended by representatives from various governments, including heads of state and Ministers. The representatives discussed their countries' efforts to counter violent extremism threatening international peace and stability, as well as future funding for GCERF activities.
- Representing Japan, Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI delivered a statement, emphasizing Japan's strong determination not to tolerate any form of terrorism and violent extremism and noting Japan's ongoing cooperation with other nations, the United Nations, and international organizations such as the GCERF. He highlighted Japan's commitment to countering violent extremism in various regions, including the Indo-Pacific and Africa, and stressed the importance of promoting future cooperation with the GCERF.
(Reference1) Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF)
Established in June 2014 as a proposal by the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF), this non-profit fund is one of the GCTF-inspiring institutions working on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE). It solicits donors from both the public and private sectors, allocates the collected funds to projects by local governments, civil society organizations, and others working on PVE at the community level, and conducts review, oversight, and evaluation of these projects.
Japan participates as a Board member and has contributed a cumulative total of approximately US$9.2 million since 2014 to projects in countries such as the Philippines, Ghana, and Indonesia.
