MoFA held the “Business and Human Rights” seminars for business enterprises in three Japanese cities and three countries from November 2023 to January 2024. These seminars aimed to further accelerate the implementation of respecting human rights.

1. Seminars and Workshops in Japan (Cities : Nagoya, Yokohama, Osaka)

MoFA held in-person seminars and workshops in 3 cities (Nagoya, Yokohama, Osaka) with total 174 attendees.

Following the briefs on the Japan’s National Action Plan (NAP) and the Government‘s measures, and on the basic concept on Business and Human Rights (BHR) by Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co., Ltd., experts gave lectures on the business practices respecting Human Rights (Nagoya: Mr. Keiichi Ujiie, Deputy Executive Director of GCNJ (Global Compact Network Japan), Yokohama: Mr. Daisuke Takahashi, Partner Attorney, Shinwa Law / Vice Chair, CSR Project Team, Japan Federation of Bar Associations, Osaka: Ms. Emi Sugawara, Professor, Osaka University of Economics and Law). The local companies (the member companies of the Association of Small Business Entrepreneurs) also shared their experiences (Nagoya:Takase Molding System Co., Ltd., Yokohama: AKAHARA Co., Ltd., Osaka: NIPPON FUSSO CO.,LTD.).

We received the comments from attendees; “It was useful to learn Human Rights from multiple perspectives.” and “I was able to understand the perspective of both the Public and Private sectors “.

At the workshops, participants including the speakers of our seminars shared their knowledge and experiences for further promoting BHR in their operations. We received the comments from participants such as “Very useful with active discussion than expected.” and “It was great to share common issues among the participants”.

2. Seminars in Overseas (Countries : Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh)

MoFA organized online seminars in 3 countries (Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh) with total 374 attendees.

Following the briefs on the Japan’s NAP and the Government ‘s measures by MoFA, and on the basic concept on Human Rights and the issues in each country by Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co., Ltd., executives of the leading companies operating in Southeast Asia shared their good practices (Vietnam: Ajinomoto Co., Inc., Teijin Ltd., Cambodia: Aeon Co., Ltd., Aeon Topvalu Co., Ltd., Bangladesh: Taisei Corporation).

We received the comments from attendees; “Very informative with systematic contents and practical examples.”, “Learned about other company’s issues and resolutions.”, and “Very useful input for planning our company’s future initiatives”.
