Registration of official side events for “Shine Weeks“

Introduction

 "World Assembly for Women in Tokyo: WAW! Tokyo 2014" will be held in Tokyo from September 12 (Friday) to September 14 (Sunday) (Note1). With the attendance of prominent participants from all over the world, it is scheduled to discuss the ways and significance of the economic, social and political participation of women in society. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the registration of women-related events which generate movement for “A Society where Women Shine” with the spirit of this symposium (Note 2) in the following manner.

1. Official side events

 The official side events should promote movement for a “Society where Women Shine” and be implemented during the "Shine Weeks" from September 8 (Monday) to September 19 (Friday).
 Events may include, but not limited to, women-related events such as symposiums, seminars, movies, performance, cultural events (food and tourism) and so on.
 If the date of the event which you are planning is out of the Shine Weeks, please contact with the Secretariat. We also welcome the events with the participation of men, not only women (Note 3).

2. Organizer

 Local governments, educational institutions, private companies and citizen groups etc.

 Host organization bears the cost.

 Depending on the schedule and the content of the events, it might be possible for the participants of WAW! Tokyo 2014" to attend the events as guests. Please contact the Secretariat if you have any interest. (The list of the participants to "World Assembly for Women in Tokyo: WAW! Tokyo 2014" will be posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in due course.)

Tokyo 2014" is being jointly hosted by four organizations –the Government of Japan, KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation), Nikkei Inc. and the Japan Institute of International Affairs– and it is also being supported by the Japan Center for Economic Research
  • (Note2) The issues to be discussed at "World Assembly for Women in Tokyo: WAW! Tokyo 2014" will include the economic benefits produced by working women, diverse ways of working, social development, and the difficulties shared by women throughout the world.
  • (Note3) Examples of events which will NOT be certified as official side events for “Shine Weeks“
    • Events for commercial purposes, events which lack publicness.
    • Events organized by groups such as political groups, religious groups and similar groups.
    • Events that offend against public order and morals.
    • Events deemed inappropriate in diplomatic terms.
