On April 26th (local time), Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan attended the funeral for His Holiness Pope Francis in Vatican on behalf of the Government of Japan. Minister Iwaya expressed his sincere respect for the achievements of Pope Francis to date and extended his heartfelt condolences.

Minister Iwaya, at the funeral venue, had brief talks with attendees, including President Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Castro Sarmiento of Honduras, Secretary-General Guterres of the United Nations, President Costa of the European Council, President Von der Leyen of the European Commission, Prime Minister Frieden of Luxembourg, Foreign Minister Sybiha of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Barrot of France, Foreign Minister Tajani of Italia, High Representative Kallas of the European Commission.
