Japan-Sweden Relations

On January 10, commencing at 11:10 a.m. local time (same day, 7:10 p.m. JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to Stockholm, Sweden, held an exchange of views with Ms. Julia Kronlid, WPL Country Ambassador (Second Deputy Speaker of the Risdag), the Kingdom of Sweden. The overview is as follows.

  1. Minister Kamikawa stated that she is the first female Japanese foreign minister in about 20 years, and as she has been working as WPL ambassador of Japan since 2016, she expressed her pleasure at meeting Ms. Kronlid, who serves as Sweden's WPL ambassador. Minister Kamikawa stated her view that and it has been important to work on issues surrounding women and WPS with an awareness of the aspect connecting individual countries and organizations by utilizing the WPL network. Ms. Kronlid welcomed Minister Kamikawa’s visit to Sweden, and expressed her desire to work together on various issues as WPL country ambassadors.
  2. Minister Kamikawa also stated that as Minister for Foreign Affairs, she is vigorously promoting WPS as part of Japan's major foreign policy, and she recently visited Kiev and Warsaw to hear firsthand the stories of Ukrainian women and children, and expressed her hope that the WPS perspective would be incorporated into support for Ukraine and the Middle East. She expressed her desire to elevate WPS to the next level by utilizing the WPL network. Both sides actively exchanged views on topics such as women and WPS.
